"It could have been one of Hitch's greatest movies." So says film historian David Auiler, after discovering pages of detailed notes as well as four reels of "preliminary footage" of a movie called Kaleidoscope, which Alfred Hitchcock had planned to produce and direct in 1961. Unfortunately, the film was put on indefinite hold by Universal and remained so until Hitch's death. Although the subject of the movie is uncertain, it was deemed too controversial by nervous executives. The material was found by Auiler amongst a pile of Hitchcock goodies left to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Library by the big-boned director's daughter Patricia.
