When news broke of the Hatton Garden safe deposit burglary in 2015, it was hard not to think it sounded like the plot of a film. The team behind King Of Thieves clearly had that brainwave, and now the teaser trailer is online.

King Of Thieves isn't even the first film to make it out of the gates on the subject – 2017's The Hatton Garden Job arrived to little acclaim, but this one has it beat on star wattage. With James Marsh in the director's chair, the cast includes Michael Caine, Michael Gambon, Ray Winstone, Jim Broadbent, Paul Whitehouse, Francesca Annis and Charlie Cox.

The crime itself was impressive, with £200 million’s worth of valuables stolen from the vaults of the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit company. Britain’s largest-scale burglary for years (some believe ever), it was later revealed that the masterminds behind the plan were a group of older crooks who got the gang back together, recruited one or two more and went to work through the long weekend of Easter.

King Of Thieves breaks into UK cinemas on 14 September.
