The wildly contrasting delights of The Hangove****r and Up continued to win the hearts and minds of American moviegoers this weekend, taking $33.4m and $30.5m respectively at the US box office this weekend.

Up has logged a hearty $187 million since release, putting it third behind Star Trek and Monsters Vs. Aliens in this year's highest gross-ers and showing that septugenarians still have big-screen pulling power. The Hangover meanwhile continues to hammer home Todd Phillips' heavyweight comedy credentials with its rave reviews and must-see cameo from Mike Tyson.

While a sunny weekend in Europe meant fewer people flocking to the cinema, Terminator Salvation posted a more-than-respectable $46 million in its second weekend, taking its total gross to $165 million and no doubt encouraging Sony executives' to scrawl a hasty 'Terminator 5?' on their memo pads.
