The project that just won't stop flying around Hollywood, The Green Hornet, has found another studio in which to try and build its nest, with producer Neal Moritz securing the rights for Columbia.
The character began as part of a radio serial in the '30s, before making cropping up in comics, films and a popular TV series in the '60s starring Van Williams and a then little-known Bruce Lee. Brit Reid is a millionaire publisher who leads a double life as a crime fighter. Sound like a rip-off of a certain winged superhero? Well, the creation of the Hornet predates Bob Kane's idea by at least two years, so maybe it's time Brit got some props back from Bruce Wayne.
Moritz is apparently a big fan of the series, and has been waiting patiently to acquire the rights to the character as others struggled to make it a big screen reality. Kevin Smith was attached as a screenwriter for a while (and who knows, may yet re-join the fold), while actors under consideration at one time or another include Mark Wahlberg, Jake Gyllenhaal and George Clooney, but there's not so much as a finalised draft of the script yet, so don't expect an announcement on casting for a good few months yet.
