Good Fortune Trailer: Keanu Reeves Is A Literal Angel In Aziz Ansari Comedy Movie

Good Fortune

That Keanu Reeves is something of an angel is no secret. Sure, he might've killed a few hundred baddies in John Wick, unleashed his dark side as spiny speedster Shadow in Sonic The Hedgehog 3, and starred in The Lake House, but the Canadian actor-musician-comic-book-writer is, by all accounts, a divine being in human form. Handy then, as in Master Of None creator Aziz Ansari's upcoming comedy Good Fortune, Reeves plays a literal angel, Gabriel, who comes to Earth and finds himself meddling in the lives of gig worker Arj (Ansari) and venture capitalist Jeff (Seth Rogen). If the first trailer for the movie is anything to go by, then whether Gabriel's divine intervention is more of a blessing than a curse remains to be seen — check it out below;

"To save a lost soul, you have to find a lost soul." So says Sandra Oh's winged emissary Martha at the start of this first Good Fortune trailer, looking to offer some guidance to Reeves' somewhat sappy angel Gabriel, whose usual angelic duties mostly consist of stopping folk texting while driving. Cue a series of brief looks at yer man Gabriel, clad in mac and feathers, meeting Ansari's struggling delivery driver ("Wait, you're telling me I have a budget guardian angel?" exclaims a less-than-impressed Arj) and crossing paths with Rogen's smug-looking investor. Sure, it's only a minute-long teaser, so this is all vibes and minimal plot, but the vibes do at least seem to be fun, with Reeves leaning into the absurdity of the concept and Ansari clearly having fun with giving the Baba Yaga himself a pair of massive angel wings.

Though we don't see it here, the wrinkle in Gabriel's plan to really earn his guardian angel wings comes when he has Arj and Jeff swap places, only for the former to find he actually gets off on his newfound power. Oh, the drama! We'll find out whether Good Fortune makes for heavenly viewing, or if it's a cinematic devil in disguise, when the movie hits cinemas on 17 October.
