Glass Still Unbreakable Atop The US Box Office

Sarah Paulson - Glass

It was not a good week to be a newcomer in the Stateside box office charts. None of the new arrivals truly challenged the holdover champion, Glass. And M. Night Shyamalan's latest added $19 million to its coffers, according to studio estimates.

The film has now earned $73.5 million the US and currently stands around $162.6 million worldwide. Which, while it might not be a huge amount compared to other movies that feature superpowered people, is still healthy given its $20 million budget (before marketing, of course).

Still drawing audiences, The Upside stayed in second place with $12.2 million, while Aquaman, a six-week veteran of the charts, continued to tread water in third, adding $7.3 million. That was enough to see off the week's first wide release newcomer, as Joe Cornish's The Kid Who Would Be King charged the US charts, but could only manage a fourth place launch. It made $7.2 million, with $10 million worldwide (though it has yet to arrive in certain key markets, such as over here). And that still represents double the earnings of Attack The Block.

Despite potential fresh competition for a family audience, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse clung to fifth on $6.1 million, while Green Book took advantage of what Oscar attention and other awards it scored to expand its release and jump to sixth with $5.4 million (it's taken $49 million so far in the States).

A Dog's Way Home slipped to seventh and $5.2 million, and then we find the second newcomer of the week, Serenity. The thriller, despite starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, was sunk by bad reviews and little buzz, floundering into eighth with $4.8 million. Escape Room fell two places to ninth and $4.2 million, while last week's surprise hit, Dragon Ball Super: Broly dropped to 10th with $3.6 million.
