Twentieth Century Fox is limbering up for a remake of Girls Just Want To Have Fun, the Helen Hunt and Sarah Jessica Parker-starring teen comedy about two friends who just gotta dance.

The film's plot saw new girl Janey (Parker) arrive in town and befriend Lynne (Hunt), bonding over their shared passion for dancing and a show called Dance TV in particular. On hearing that the show is coming to town, they're determined to appear, but Janey's dad disapproves and throws a spanner in the works.

The film also featured a young Shannen Doherty and Hank Azaria and was a bit like Footloose but not nearly as good and with even worse hair and outfits. For fashion horse SJP, in particular, it's proof that no one starts out well-dressed.

A Disney Channel reboot was rumoured to be in the works, with Selena Gomez or Ashley Tinsdale lined up to star, but we're guessing that that has fallen apart for this to be happening. The remake's set to be written by Michelle Morgan, who recently sold new scripts called Is He The One and Imogene. Let's hope she fits in just as many enormous hair bows and ra-ra skirts as the original.
