What, you cry, could possibly be bigger and better than Attack of the Clones? A bigger and better Attack of the Clones of course. Proponents of the Star Wars backlash will doubtless roll their eyes, but a new incarnation of George Lucas' opus is now in sight as it prepares for the transition to IMAX cinemas. Lucas has agreed to re-master the film for the towering IMAX screens, where punters will be able to see the normally pint-sized Jedi master, Yoda, towering eight stories high as he faces off against Count Dooku. Starting back with Apollo 13, Imax's decision to start bringing in major Hollywood motion pictures was a concerted effort to help expand its audience appeal and landing Lucas' most recent opus is certainly a large step in the right direction. "You couldn't find a movie better suited for the IMAX format," said Bruce Snyder, president of 20th Century Fox. We couldn't agree more, but none of us may ever know for sure as there is currently no scheduled release for the IMAX version of Clones anywhere outside the US and Canada. But don't fret just yet, according to a spokesman from the London IMAX, negotiations for a UK release are currently underway.
