Friday The 13th Not A Remake?

So what the heck is it then?

Shock Till You Drop has reported a few tidbits on Platinum Dunes' latest project, Friday the 13th. But it appears that, in contrast to most of their output, this won't, strictly, be a remake.

According to their sources, it's not an origin tale, and it's not a remake of the original film. Perhaps that's no surprise - after all, Jason himself doesn't turn up in the first film and his iconic look wasn't settled till even later. So basically it sounds like we should expect this to involve a dude in a hockey mask who is "leaner, meaner and faster" than before (so says Shock) killing people at and around Camp Crystal Lake.

Marcus "Pathfinder, god help us" Nispel is directing, and the film's due for release in February 2009. Hmm - is it just us, or does this sound like any old slasher movie? Is there anything inherently exciting about Jason Voorhees himself? Let us know...
