Fox 2000 has snatched the rights to Catherine Fisher’s dark fantasy Incarceron from the jaws of other studios and is hoping it could finally be the fantasy franchise the studio has been looking for.
Incarceron follows the adventures of a boy who lives inside a prison that is its own, locked-off society. Beyond the walls, the outside world is stuck in the 17th century yet overseen by computers. But when our hero meets the warden’s daughter, they discover a key that could change everything.
Hugh Jackman’s Seed Productions has been tasked with overseeing the film’s development, with Jackman’s producing partner John Palermo already out hunting down writers and directors to get things moving.
It may still end up a triumph of hope over experience given Fox’s history with possible fantasy franchises (Eragon? The Seeker?) but if it does take off, Fisher’s follow-up, Sapphique, is due in novel form next year.
