When Roland Emmerich goes to war, you just know the results are going to be explosive. So it appears with his latest, World War II action drama Midway, which charts a tide-turning clash. The first trailer has arrived online, and "bombastic" is probably the best word to describe it.
According to the official synopsis, this is "the epic real-life saga about an undermanned American fleet and the brave Navy leaders and pilots who triumphed, against the odds, over a powerful adversary. With democracy and freedom at stake, these US brothers-in-arms conquered the Imperial Japanese Navy at the Battle of Midway, a most stunning clash by air and sea which marked a heroic feat of naval warfare and pivoted the Allies toward victory in the Pacific Theater during World War II."
Emmerich has gathered a cast that includes Patrick Wilson, Ed Skrein, Mandy Moore, Woody Harrelson, Luke Evans, Alexander Ludwig, Dennis Quaid and Nick Jonas. We'll have to wait and see if he can keep his Event Film impulses under control and find the human story within. Midway is targeting an 8 November release date in the UK.
