Another day, another children’s fantasy project gets the greenlight. The Hollywood Reporter, erm, reports that David Reynolds, he who penned the likes of Chicken Little, Finding Nemo and a whole host of Disney projects, is all set to write the big-screen version of Nightmare Academy.

Dean Lorey’s already successful kiddie read finds a boy called Charlie Benjamin discovering that when he goes to sleep his dreams open up a portal to the Netherworld – a place where all manner of monsterish sorts make their home. With the creatures nearly eating a sleepover party, Charlie is packed off to the Nightmare Academy where he will hopefully learn to keep a lid on his power.

No casting details as yet for the 2008-slated film, but The Mummy and Van Helsing director and producer duo Stephen Sommers and Bob Ducsay are behind the adaptation so the monsters should at least be, well, monstrous.
