The latest computer-generated movie to go into production at Sony Pictures Animation is Neanderthals, a story written by Jon Favreau. The film is set to continue a general CG trend for all things icy. SPA’s tentpole summer release for 2007 is Surf’s Up!, about a gang of wave-riding penguins, and Fox’s Ice Age 2: The Meltdown will reach cinemas next year.

It won’t be Favreau’s first foray into CGI, since he’s providing the voice of Reilly the beaver for Open Season. That film’s due out next year too, and since it’s SPA’s first feature-length animation, the studio will be hoping it’s a hit of Shrek-like proportions.
