It seems pianos can do no wrong down under. After the massive success of Shine, the Australian Film Finance Corporation is having to choose between two projects based on the life of Percy Grainger. Never heard of him? Well try this. He was a top composer, superb pianist and a mother-fixated eccentric. He also had a passion for self-flagellation and used to mutilate himself to such an extent that he needed medical attention. He was refreshingly public about his sexual excesses, the bruises from which his mother charmingly referred to as 'blue roses.' He sounds right up Ken Russell's alley and Grainger has tempted our man in the past. It looks as though either Passion or Blue Rose will be causing something of a stir in the near future...
