Noting that the star of the Harry Potter movie Daniel Radcliffe, had previously worked with Sir Ian McKellen in David Copperfield, Empire Online got to wondering what words of advice his latest character in Lord of the Rings, Gandalf, would offer to the budding boy wizard. So using the marvels of modern technology we emailed Sir Ian on the set of the Rings in New Zealand and put the question to him. Despite having a hectic schedule, Sir Ian replied by return email as follows; 'On my one day teaching David Copperfield I was much too absorbed in Mr Creakle than to have noticed a future wizard in the class. Now I am a wizard myself, it all becomes clear. Hollywood has come to its senses. Perhaps I shouldn't spend so much time reading the fansites who predicted a yankee Harry. Perhaps David Heyman and Chris Columbus responded to the outcries. Anyway I'm delighted for Daniel Radcliffe and only sorry I shan't be teaching him again in his new film. Harry is a much better part than David.'
