Meet Dan Makta. In Luc Besson's upcoming sci-fi epic Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets, he's an ambassador, usually found at council meetings on Alpha Station (aka that aforementioned thousand-planet city). Dan Makta belongs to one of roughly 2,000 species of alien you'll meet in the adaptation of the French graphic novel by Pierre Christin.

"Most of the time when you see aliens in a film, they're trying to destroy things," says Luc Besson in the new issue of Empire. "But Alpha is the city of science and culture: everybody is exchanging knowledge. It's a very rich world."

Dan Makta joins space-cops Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) for the new film, which sees Besson going back to his outlandish Fifth Element space opera ways.
