Not so family-orientated animations from Europe

Europe's finally piped up and taken on the might of the US animation houses, although title-wise, we're not quite there yet. Decidedly non- Disney are the recent ventures, 'The Little Asshole' and 'Werner: Eat My Dust', both stark contrasts to the instilled age-old themes of orphaned deer and sleeping beauties but evidently laughing in the faces of cartoon giants the world over. Driven by the hope that paying distributors, TV networks and theatrical exhibitors will see cartoon life existing beyond Disney, recent success has been clearly demonstrated by the live animation French flick, Claude Zidi's 'Asterix and Obelix vs. Caesar', which upon its release in France last week packed out box offices.
