Debate has been raging about the direction Star Wars: Episode II will take even before the first frames of Episode I hit the big screen. Subjects such as the resurrection of Darth Maul, the death of Jar Jar Binks and the hope that George Lucas will introduce a character to fill the humour vacuum left by Han Solo have been filling magazines and websites alike. When Empire interviewed George back in July he talked of Episode II ‘being a love story, it’s less of a kids movie because they don’t like to sit through all that yucky stuff’. Now, in an interview with Cinescape, producer Rick McCallum has revealed how the Amidala and Anakin plotline will pan out in Episode II. ‘Well, I think the Queen's got a long journey - I mean, she's just at the beginning,’ he says ‘I think what you're going to see coming from her – because obviously we know something happens - she's going to marry Anakin and they're going to have their two kids.’ But it’s not all kissy stuff by any means. ‘The real thing is what happens to Anakin,’ McCallum explains. ‘Why does he do the things he does? Why does he lie and cheat and hurt people…Because Anakin is a perfect kid as we meet him now. He’s innocent. He’s got a talent. We don’t know what it is yet.’ While McCallum won’t be drawn on whether Darth Maul makes a dramatic recovery, he does say that fans ‘will not believe what is in store’ for them in Episode II.
