The American film industry is today celebrating a court victory over a website which revealed information on how easy it was to copy a DVD. The New York court ruled that the www.2600.com website could no longer feature links to sites featuring DVD scrambling softwear. The court, which dismissed the site's claims that such restrictions infringed their right to free speech, ruled that by linking to such sites, the website was 'shuttling people to a place where contraband is being handed out. With that in mind, it would be perfectly acceptable to shut down the shuttle buses.' The case was brought by eight film studios who viewed the softwear in question as the film equivalent of Napster.
