In the latest of a series of blows to his career and personal life, funny man Dudley Moore yesterday revealed that he is suffering from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) - a rare brain disorder which is related to Parkinson's disease. 'I hope that by revealing my illness today, I can bring attention to this rare malady that afflicts thousands of people, many of whom remain undiagnosed,' the actor said. 64-year-old Moore is currently receiving treatment at a New Jersey clinic, but the disease has progressed to a point where he is now forced to rely on a cane to help him walk. The illness comes as the latest crisis for Moore, who in the past few years has undergone open-heart surgery, suffered the death of close friend and comic partner Peter Cook and had to deal with the fallout from his tempestuous marriage to Nicole Rothschild. Rothschild eventually dropped a lawsuit against her ex-husband, telling an American tabloid, 'I don't want to be the reason he goes over the edge.' she told the paper. 'He said he was waiting to die.' Moore's statement was the second event this week to focus attention on Parkinsons. The day previously, Michael J Fox appeared before a Senate subcommittee, asking them to increase funding for Parkinson's research by $75 million. 'The war against Parkinson's is a winnable war,' said Fox, 'and I am resolved to play a role in that victory.'
