Figuring that audiences were primed and ready now that the fantasy worlds of CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien have made the quest to the big screen, Canadian production company Copperheart Entertainment has struck a deal to bring Anne McCaffrey’s massive-selling Dragonriders Of Pern novel series to the big screen
Optioning all 19 books in the series in one foul swoop, the producers will kick off with 1968’s Dragonflight, which will introduce us to a world where humans ride dragons and telepathically bond with their scaly steeds.
"I decided that Pern had to be done right, and I wouldn't let it go to someone unless I was certain that they were committed to excellence," McCaffrey told The Hollywood Reporter. Let’s hope she’s right. The world doesn’t need another Dungeons & Dragons. Or another Dungeons & Dragons 2.
