Matthew McConaughey – busy starring in American football true-life plane tragedy We Are Marshall – has become Mr Popular over at New Line.

The studio wants to lock him into a two-film deal that’ll see him take on a resurrected romcom and a Southern-fried action comedy.

First up would be Ghost Of Girlfriends Past, which some may recall was all set to roll at Disney with Ben Affleck back in 2004 before the studio got cold feet (probably something to do with Gigli) and banished the spooky high concept movie to turnaround purgatory.

Now New Line, which apparently had something similar in the works, but figured that this would be a better fit for someone with the success of Failure To Launch under their belt. So the company snapped up the rights and it's back on track.

Also part of the deal is The Grackle, the story of a rough-and-ready bar brawler in New Orleans who finds his life in danger when his old archenemy is released from prison with revenge on his mind. No start date on that one yet.
