Every once in a while, a story comes along that aims to be inspiring, emotional, heartfelt and appealing to audiences that spend their days either jumping through hoops or avoiding sharks. Yes, the dolphin-based film is back.
Alcon Entertainment has snapped up the rights to A Dolphin's Tale, which will take as its inspiration the true story of a young boy who befriends Winter, an injured dolphin who lost her tail to a crab trap.
He warms the cockles of those around him and helps the injured mammal by crating a prosthetic appendage to replace her tail. The new unit has rocket thrusters, machine guns and a laser cannon that can burn off a man's face at 200 yards*
Charles Martin Smith, who knows a classy animal tale when he sees one (he made Air Bud, after all) will write the script and direct, with Warner Bros picking up the distribution tab.
*We may have made some elements of this up. It's your job to figure out which.
