David Thompson, Head of BBC Films, revealed at the Cannes Film Festival that BBC Films is currently in discussions about making a big-screen adaptation of the famously low-budget cult TV series, Doctor Who. It's part of the BBC's new venture into bigger budget film-making. It's anybody's guess how they'll manage to capture the spirit of the original without recourse to polystyrene backdrops, but they'll probably manage. And how about Samuel L Jackson as the first cool Time Lord?
