Though the huge success of the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise spurred at lot of theme park-based movies into development during the last few years, few have seen the light. Still, Disney – even after the disappointment with park-adjacent idea Tomorrowlandis lining up another possibility with **Tower Of Terror.

Big Fish and Frankenweenie writer John August has worked up a treatment for a potential film based on the attraction that sends you dropping into a terrifying art deco hotel with a lift struck by lightning and all manner of spooky goodness.

But August won’t actually be the one to crank out the screenplay, with Disney instead starting the search for someone to expand upon the concept. It’s early days for the idea, so no directors are being approached yet. We’re just hoping that if the movie gets made, it goes all out with the old Hollywood style the ride embodies.

As for the Pirates films, the latest, Dead Men Tell No Tales, sails into cinemas on July 7, 2017. The Mouse House has several others in the works, includingJungle Cruise, which recently got a boost when Dwayne Johnson climbed aboard, planning to star in and produce the film that had been floating in a development lagoon for a while.
