Disney has announced that it will release five large-format films, to be screened in Imax cinemas, over the next few years. This follows the success of Fantasia 2000 on Imax screens worldwide. The first release will be an Imax-friendly version of Beauty and the Beast. Disney have spent the last year enhancing the original film for the big, big screen and adding a never-before-seen musical number. The other releases will be brand new productions, including a live-action prequel to The Black Stallion, an adaptation of a Broadway musical called Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk, and a nature film entitled Birds of Prey. Beauty and the Beast should hit Imax screens in 2002.
