Following hot on the heels of the lukewarm Evan Almighty, Variety has got word that indie financer Unified Pictures is launching development of a CGI flick telling the story of Noah’s Ark from the viewpoint of the animals.
The $35 million feature has signed up scribe Philip LaZebnik (writer of The Prince of Egypt, Mulan and Pocahontas) to come up with the story details.
Most interestingly the project is relying on private financing with Unified executive Keith Kjarval claiming that even on a relatively meagre budget the improvements in CG technology will make it possible to give Ark the look and feel of a studio film.
The Ark is expected in cinemas in 2009 or thereabouts.
