Dave Grohl Talks Back And Forth

"You know," deadpans Dave Grohl, "I'm taking over Hollywood."

He's not - not really. But you suspect that if the Foo Fighters frontman wanted to, he probably could. But he will be hitting UK cinemas tonight, with a one-off showing of the Foos documentary, Back And Forth, streaming across the country at 8pm.

Oh, and as an added incentive, the Foos will be performing their new album,** Wasting Light**, after the film - in glorious 3D. "It’s going to be nuts," says Grohl, talking exclusively to Empire. "I’m really excited. The last time I saw a 3D movie was when you had the glasses with one red eye and one blue eye, so the new 3D technology is insane! When it comes to having a rock band jumping around, it looks pretty cool."

With this, and an upcoming cameo in The Muppets as a potential replacement for Animal, Grohl seems to be making an assault on the movies. But all is not what it seems. "Dude, I always said I never wanted to be an actor, so I figured that I’ll be a Muppet, I’ll be Satan in the Tenacious D movie and I’ll do 3D concerts!" he laughs.

But he's happy for the Foos to lend their music to films, with the likes of Walking After You, My Hero and The One all gracing the silver screen previously. But does he have a filmic Foos fave? "I do, actually. We had a song called A320 that we put in the Godzilla movie that came out in 1998. It was about the closest thing we’ve ever gotten to prog rock. It had no commercial appeal, there was no way it was ever going to be played on radio, but they paid a fortune for it."

That was good. The final product, not so much. "We went to that Godzilla movie when we were on tour," chuckles Grohl. "We found a theatre and went to see it and it was the worst movie we’d ever seen in our lives. And they played our song at the tail end of the end credits. That’s my favourite placement for a Foo Fighters song ever!"

For more from Grohl, pick up the NEXT issue of Empire - on sale April 28 (subscribe so you don't miss out!{ =nofollow}). And check your local cinemas to see if Back And Forth is playing near you. If it's not, it should be out on DVD soon.
