We all knew The Dark Knight was going to be big, but today come's news that parts of it are going to be re-heally big. Christopher Nolan has said that he's shooting four major sequences in the Imax format, including a bank heist that introduces The Joker, says USA Today
The uber-big screen format will mean that when the movie's released in Imax cinemas these four sequences will fill the whole screen in super-hi-def, rather than that oddly stretched 'n' squished look we're used to from normal movies transferred to the format. It'll also mean that in non-Imax cinemas these sequences appear much clearer – think hi-def versus standard TV.
"There's simply nothing like seeing a movie that way," Nolan told USA Today. "It's more immersive for the audience. I wish I could shoot the entire thing this way...You can't do this on any home theater. Batman has some of the most extraordinary characters in pop culture. We wanted the Joker to have the grandest entrance possible".
Excitingly, USA Today also has two new pics from the movie. Click the thumbnails below to view. Neither is likely to be enough to make you soil your Batman branded Y-fronts, but in one we get a good, albeit, blurred impression of The Joker with green hair and all. The second pic shows a man in a clown mask with another character out of focus in the background. Since the clothes match up with other shots we've seen, this could be The Joker pre-facial mangling or one of his henchmen. What do you think?
