With his time at Hogwarts almost at an end, Daniel Radcliffe is seeking to define himself as a proper actor and thus be saved from a life of wearing school uniform at fan conventions well into middle-age. To which end, he's just signed on to play true life war photographer Dan Eldon in Journey.
Eldon, who's work has won much acclaim in recent years, was part of a group of four journalists working in Mogadishu in 1993 when they were stoned to death by a mob. He was just 22 when he died.
Radcliffe has faced a great deal of flack for his work as Potter, but this sounds like the sort of role to silence critics if he can pull it off. Anybody who saw the young actor in the stageplay Equus will know that he can pull off an intense performance, so it'll be interesting to see if he can translate that to celluloid.
