Matt Damon has been offered the lead role in amnesiac drama The Bourne Identity, according to Variety. Doug Liman, who previously directed Go, is set to direct the film which is based on the novel by Robert Ludlum. It's the story of a wounded man who's washed up on an island with no recollection of how he got there. He has to fight to discover his identity, while facing a nubmer of dangers on the island. Damon will next be seen in The Legend of Bagger Vance, with Will Smith, and All The Pretty Horses, with Penelope Cruz. Damon, who recently split with Winona Ryder, was rumoured to be closer than just co-stars with Cruz.
