The long-awaited (since 2019 at least) return of Idris Elba, his rumpled coat and perma-scowl attitude as John Luther to our screens is creeping closer. Netflix, which has the rights to make a Luther movie, has announced that Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis are joining the cast.
Luther creator Neil Cross wrote the film and series directing veteran Jamie Payne is rumored to be calling the shots. As for the story? It'll likely pick up after the events of Series 5, which saw Loofah arrested.
We don't yet know what either of the new pair will be playing, nor is there any indication as to whether Ruth Wilson will show up as Alice Morgan (last presumed dead, though she's been proclaimed dead and gone before).
At the very least, though, we're getting new Luther – and that's a good thing.
