There will be more royal action on Netflix – just don't go expecting the Harry and Meghan drama. Netflix has announced that, just six months since the streaming service confirmed that The Crown would end after five seasons (or, let's be properly British here, series), the team has decided to add a sixth.
It all stems from show creator Peter Morgan, who decided he and the other writers needed more time to tell the story: "As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons. To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail."
So, yes, the storyline will still end in the early 2000s, but we're guessing Team Crown needed more time to follow the Charles & Diana drama and just beyond.
Imelda Staunton is taking over as Queen Elizabeth, with Lesley Manville recently confirmed as Princess Margaret.
Season... Sorry, Series 4 (with Olivia Colman and the S3 cast still in place) will be on Netflix later this year, as it was able to finish shooting before the pandemic sent all production into lockdown.
