Oh boy. You can almost hear the furore starting up now.

Clearly inspired by the success of The Passion Of The Christ, Colour Of The Cross is telling the story of Jesus. And it'll stir controversy thanks to the casting of a black Christ.

"It's more likely that Jesus was black than it was that Jesus was European," producer – and Reverend – Cecil “Chip” Murray told Variety. "It's not an assertion that is a difficult one."

The film is being made on a modest $2.5 million budget, and does not yet have a distributor, though 20th Century Fox has paid to handle home video releases in the States.

Cross will star Jean-Claude La Marre, who is also directing and writing the film.
