David Cronenberg, director of eXistenZ, Crash and Dead Ringers, is to step in front of the camera for the tenth installment of the Friday the 13th horror franchise. Jason X will be directed by special effects man, and Cronenberg collaborator, James Isaac. Set in 2455, the film sees Cronenberg as a professor who discovers a frozen Jason when he takes a group of students to earth on a school trip. With the hockey-masked serial killer onboard their spaceship things, unsurprisingly, start to get bloody. Commenting on his character, Cronenberg told the Hollywood Reporter, "I basically play a stupid doctor who deserves to die." It's not the director's first acting appearance - he's had roles in films including Last Night, To Die For and Clive Barker's Nightbreed. He's also no stranger to Friday the 13th, having directed an episode of the TV spin-off in 1987.
