The real life survival expert who provided Australian comedian Paul Hogan with the model for his character in Crocodile Dundee has been shot dead by police. Bushman Rodney Ansell was killed in a gun battle after an attack on a Darwin family in which two people were injured. Ansell became famous in 1977 after his boat was overturned by a crocodile and he survived for two months on a deserted island by shooting buffalo and sharks. His story was made into a book and a documentary
