A sequel to 1991 music comedy The Commitments is on the way after Hollywood bosses gave the go-ahead. Miramax Films have hired playwright Warren Leight to script a sequel to the original movie, which was based on award-winning Irish writer Roddy Doyle's book. But Doyle has stated that he will never get involved in a follow-up to the original, which was directed by Alan Parker - who's just done another Irish film adaptation, Angela's Ashes.

'Commitmentettes' Angeline Ball, Mariah Doyle and Bronagh Gallagher all went on to experience different degrees of success as actresses, but the others all failed to become household names in either music or movies though a handful of the musicians still regularly tour as The Commited, performing songs from the film. A Hollywood insider says,"The idea is to bring back some of the original cast, who by the end of the first film had their dreams of glory dashed. " Singer Andrew strong, who played the band's frontman Deco Cuffe, is hotly tipped to star again in the follow-up.
