Clueless turned 25 this year, and Empire got in on the celebrations in our Celebration Of Cinema issue a few months ago. The film already spawned one TV series, and if the Peacock streaming service has its way, a second show will arrive – with a twist.
The film's writer/director Amy Heckerling isn't involved in this new small screen incarnation, with Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey running the show as head writers. Their take on the story is being described as "a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sun-glasses wearing, oat milk latte and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong number two Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans. How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend?"
Stacey Dash played Dionne to Alicia Silverstone's Cher in the film, but the new show will swap out the cast (though we'd expect the production team to offer cameos to them). This latest series had been in development late last year, but it now has an official home and will move forward.
