Entertainment Weekly caught up with Chris Pine, aka young Captain Kirk in the upcoming Star Trek, in Sundance while he was promoting indie movie Bottle Shock. And, because they're not stupid, they quizzed him on his upcoming movie with JJ Abrams.
While the actor said he would tell the interviewer "not a thing", he let slip something that might give a little confirmation on the plot. Naturally, possible spoilers follow. During discussion of William Shatner, whom he said he will not be imitating but will take inspiration from (We hope. He doesn't. Mean. The. Speaking style), Pine said, "I've met Mr. Nimoy a couple of times. He's been on set and we have a couple of scenes in the film, which will be nice, and I'm excited for those".
Now, how can the old Spock and the young Kirk share scenes if the plot doesn't have something to do with time travel? Obviously, there have been numerous whispers that time jumping would feature in the film since Nimoy joined the cast, but there was always the possibility that he'd just be seen as a flash forward, or the film was a flashback, and Paramount and Abrams have been schtum. So, we'd consider that pretty much a confirmation that there's something funny going on with the clocks in this movie. But who is doing the time travelling, Spock or the young Enterprise crew?
