What is it with current actors suddenly wanting to play golden age actors? Both Jamie Bell and Tom Holland have been linked with Fred Astaire in the last couple of years and now here comes Chris Evans, rumoured to be playing Gene Kelly in a new movie.

The untitled film, which has Gladiator and Alien: Covenant writer John Logan attached to both crank out the script and produced, originated with an idea from Evans himself. It'll follow a 12-year-old boy who works on the MGM Lot in 1952 and begins to create an imagined friendship with the legendary movie star Kelly while working on his next film.

It's very early days for this one, and no studio is yet attached, but we can imagine many companies wanting to jump aboard. Especially since Evans' Knives Out director Rian Johnson is attached to produce alongside longtime professional partner Ram Bergman. We'll next see Evans in Netflix action thriller The Gray Man and providing the lead voice for Pixar's Lightyear.
