Working Title films have optioned the right to a book by the novelist Margaret Atwood, with plans for Cate Blanchett to star in the leading role. Alias Grace will feature Cate as the Grace in question - a real-life 19th century Canadian housemaid who was convicted of the murder of her employer and his mistress. Grace was sentenced to life imprisonment, only being released after 30-odd years in prison. She always maintained she had no memory of committing the murders.
