Blue collar comedians as stupid soldiers

The likes of Larry The Cable Guy and Bill Engvall might not be household names in the UK. But they’re huge enough stars Stateside that Parallel Entertainment – which promotes their stand-up tours – is lining them up for Delta Farce.

The plot will see Larry (real name Daniel Whitney), Engvall and one of their Blue Collar comrades as inept US Army reservists who are mistakenly dropped in Mexico and help to liberate a small village from some nasty marauders.

It’s a risk for the company – the Blue Collar guys tend to do brilliantly on the stand-up circuit (The Cable Guy is America’s top-grossing comic), but their box-office appeal is a little less solid. Larry The Cable Guy’s solo effort Health inspector grabbed just $15 million across the pond this year and the original Blue Collar Comedy Tour movie made just $604,000 in 2003. But they sell huge numbers on DVD and the company will be praying that the fan base will follow…
