Buena Vista’s Pixar production, A Bug’s Life has hit a worldwide gross of $300 million, becoming only the 76th film and 12th animated or animated-live action release to reach that level. Disney’s summer animated release Mulan also passed that milestone last week, following its much-debated debut in the Republic of China. Dominating the feature animation market for what seems like an eternity, Disney has its fingers on a dozen $300 million cartoons, its first being the 1938 rendition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. With in excess of a $770 million theatrical gross, The Lion King leads the group - ranking fifth among all-time global grossers. Warner Bros. gave Disney a run for its money when its 1996 live-action-animation combo in Space Jam wound up with a $220 million worldwide wedge. At present, DreamWorks’ Asian-troubled The Prince of Egypt and Paramount’s The Rugrats Movie are both within $3 million of becoming the first non-Disney products to gross more than $100 million at the box office.
