Matthew Broderick will play the title role in Disney's big summer pic for 1999, a live action version of the cartoon Inspector Gadget. Rupert Everett will play the arch-villain, Claw, who has a prosthetic hand with more bizarre attachments than a Dominatrix-edition Swiss Army knife. Heavy special effects are expected, including a sequence in which Gadget is blown to pieces and reassembled by sexy surgeon Cameron Diaz. It's Broderick's second successive summer blockbuster lead, as he also stars in this summer's Godzilla, and it's certainly a lucrative field to get into. Rumours are he'll pick up around $5 million for the part of Gadget.
