Britain's new head of the British Board of Film Classification, Andreas Whittam Smith, says that he favours allowing members of the public and private organizations the same right to appeal a classification as movie producers. He told the London Daily Telegraph that he was "in principle in favour of anybody with a genuine interest in a classification being able to use the appeals process." He admitted that problems may arise with the proposal if the board is flooded with protests over certain films. This all stems from an amendment to a bill being introduced in the House of Lords which calls for broadening the appeals process. The author of the amendment, Lord Alton, told the Telegraph, "It is high time that...the film industry was brought to account for the levels of violence that we are being bombarded with on a regular basis." Or you could just choose not to see a violent film...we suppose.
