MPs have been complaining that the British film industry as a whole is wasting the money allocated to it by the National Lottery, by making films which only appeal to a minority of people. Of 17 films released with the help of Lottery grants, they claim that 16 have failed to attract public interest and that this dismal record should be blamed on producers. This is in direct opposition to the Chairman of the Lottery panel, Charles Denton, who commented recently that "uncommerical is not a rude word."
