Actor denied transfer to rehab centre

Life simply doesn't get any worse for Robert Downey Jr. Jailed since August for repeated parole violations, the actor is said to be so frightened in prison that he's shelling out thousands of dollars for protection, and now it turns out the courts won't give him a chance to clean up his act in secure rehab.

Entertainment site E Online reports that Downey Jr hoped to be granted a release from state prison pending his appeal, or at least a transfer to a detox centre. Alas, it was not to be, as the beak in charge of Downey's Jr's case is determined the oft-fallen star will stay put until he serves his time. Downey's disgrace originally came after a spectacular month of drugs and debauchery. In 1996 he was stopped in his car carrying heroin, cocaine and a loaded pistol, following this up a month later with a particularly blitzed evening. So blitzed in fact, that he broke into a complete strangers house and passed put in their child's bed.
