‘Boyz’ Director Sentenced to Make Movie

John Singleton ordered to film his apologies

John Singleton, maverick director of South Central LA based movie Boyz in the Hood, has been ordered to make a film about domestic violence as part of his punishment for battery. He also received three years probation for a charge of assault and battery on the mother of his six year-old child. Singleton is preparing to shoot a re-make of the 70s blaxploitation classic Shaft, with Samuel L. Jackson in the lead. Principal photography is scheduled to being in August, with the movie slated for a summer 2000 release.
