The British Film Institute (BFI), an organisation dedicated to promoting greater understanding and appreciation of and access to film and moving image culture in the UK, will be opening a brand new IMAX cinema May 1. Situated in the South Bank just outside of London's Waterloo station, the sate-of-the-art cinema will boast the UK's largest screen, capable of entertaining 482 people at any showing. The screen itself towers more than 20 metres in height and stretches an incredible span of more than 26 metres. The visual experience is backed up by an 11,600 watt digital surround-sound system, and of course, the awesome IMAX projection system, the most sophisticated motion-picture projection system in the world. Together, these elements are guaranteed to immerse the audience in larger-than-life images and ultra-realistic digital sound, truly making them feel as though they are a part of the film. Ian Temple, the head of the IMAX project for the BFI said of the project: "This major landmark building for London will connect the BFI to ever-widening audiences and act as an 'attractor' for the fast-changing South Bank" The
