May 12-23 sees one of the most prestigious events in the film calendar taking place, the 52nd Cannes Film Festival. And this year's jury features an eclectic line up of directors, actors, a singer and a playwright. The list reads like a directors member's club: Andre Techine of France, George Miller of Australia, Maurizio Nichetti of Italy and Doris Dorrie of Germany will join jury president David Cronenberg, the Canadian director of controversial flick, Crash. Hollywood's representatives arrive in the very respectable form of the brilliant Holly Hunter and Jeff Goldblum. As for the playwright, the French author of the hit play Art, Yasmina Reza, has made the cut - his play winning a coveted Tony award last year. Holly Hunter picked up an Oscar in 1993 for her part in The Piano, whereas Goldblum has carved a niche playing eccentric scientists in big-budget films like The Fly and most recently lent his distinctive voice to DreamWorks' The Prince of Egypt. Rounding up the list is celebrated opera singer Barbara Hendricks and French actress Dominque Blanc.
